Los Angeles – Hannah Montana fans can breathe a big sigh of relief. Contrary to Internet rumours starting last Friday and brewing over the weekend, the 15-year-old star of the Disney show is alive and well.

The false report claimed that Miley Cyrus was on the way to film scenes on the Hannah Montana set when her car was hit by a truck and she was killed, reports BuddyTV.

The article included witness testimonies saying the truck was going “at least 55 mph” and had “run a stop sign.” It was accompanied with a false Yahoo! News story screen shot and concluded by stating Cyrus was rushed to the Pacific Alliance Medical Center.

Astute readers may have noticed several tell-tale signs that the article was malarkey – Reuters was spelled incorrectly as “Rueters,” as were other words in the article, and there were various errors in punctuation and capitalization.

But it seems the fake story fooled enough people; it appeared on Digg and Wikipedia early Friday morning.

Cyrus performed at Fashion Rocks in New York City on Friday night.
