Los Angeles – Ryan Gosling of The Notebook has signed on to play Ron Woodroof in “The Dallas Buyers Clubâ€.
The film will be directed by Craig Gillespie, who directed last year’s Lars and the Real Girl, also starring Gosling.
“The Dallas Buyers Club†is based on the true story of a Texas electrician who was diagnosed with AIDS in 1986 and given six months to live, but frustrated with the lack of medical options decided to create an operation for smuggling alternative drugs into Texas to help AIDS sufferers.
This helped to extend Woodroof’s life for six years not six months.
He eventually died in 1992.
“Ron was this hard-drinking, carousing outlaw who got ticked off when told to go home and die,” said producer David Bushell, quoted in Variety. “This is about one man’s enduring spirit to live and the effect his actions had on others, even if his actions didn’t start out entirely as altruistic.â€
No production schedule has been released for the film.
