    Review: Forgetting Sarah Marshall

    forgetting sarah marshall review

Los Angeles – Forgetting Sarah Marshall is a romantic comedy featuring the stars of the small screen. Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother) goes out of his lawyer role in HIMYM to star in this film. Mila Kunis that gathered an almost cult following in the 70’s Show is also featured and Bill Hader from SNL gives additional laugh factor in the story. Also starring with Jason Segel is Kristen Bell who is also known from Veronica Mars.

The movie was also written by Jason Segel which is a first for him.

This is one of the movies that could be almost stereotyped with other movies like, Superbad, Knocked Up and 40 Year Old Virgin. This is expected since behind all of this is producer Judd Apatow who was also behind the previously mentioned films.

The storyline is a little bit cheesy which could have been a disaster but the writing is smartly made so that we could easily connect to the characters.

Jason Segel was able to give voice to the characters that just don’t have to be wacky to be laughed with but we just have to relate to them to see the funny side of the story. It’s one of those stories that you could say almost impossible. But the movie is expertly portrayed and written that you eventually relate to most of the characters. They just go in front of the camera and speak like the way they are in their stereotyped roles in the small tube and end up blending really nice for the large screen. It’s like having fun with a good TV show but instead of judging it as an extended version of their TV shows, it’s a whole new story and they are looked completely in different characters.

UK-based actor Russell Brand comes in really funny for this film although you might find yourself squirming a little bit at his antics.

Jonah Hill and Paul Rudd are also here which leads those who are familiar with Apatow’s latest films to think that along with Bill Hader, they are part of the movie package of Judd Apatow. But that doesn’t diminish the laughter in this film. In fact, Johan Hill has quite got out of the “Superbad” image a little bit.

This is certainly a date movie as you see the love story of Peter Bretter (Jason Segel) towards Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell) in this movie with a little twists and turns from other actors. But this is not a stereotyped date movie as it goes beyond the simple PG 13. As a Rated – R movie it has infused a little bit of sexiness as part of the laughter.

In the end, “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” may not be best movie of all time, but it is definitely one of the funniest. It doesn’t aim to teach you anything nor is it aiming to give us a message of world peace, the movie provides a good laugh that are very refreshing without really offending their audience. It’s a good way to get your special someone to laugh in a date movie.
