Boston (EON) – It has been announced that the nominations for the 2008 Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame include the likes of Beastie Boys, Madonna, and others while many heavy metal bands continue to not grace the list.
The full list of nominations for the 2008 Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame include Leonard Cohen, The Dave Clark Five, John Mellencamp, Donna Summer, Afrika Bambaataa, The Ventures, Chic, as well as Madonna and the Beastie Boys.
Five of the nine nominated will be chosen to go into the hall of fame. The nominees are chosen by a group of 70 people who consist of rock historians, heads of labels, journalists, etc.
The inductees will be honored on March 10, 2008 at the New York Waldorf Astoria Hotel.
Many are upset though as the bit metal rock bands such as Def Leppard, Deep Purple, and Judas Priest among others continue to not be placed on the list of nominees year after year. The panel is lead by Rolling Stone’s Jan Wenner and has been taking a beating in terms of backlash due to the announcements. Whether this will impact nominations in the future or not is yet to be seen.
