Nik Wallenda, Niagara Falls, Niagara County, New York
Five years after American tightrope walker Nik Wallenda walked over a wire over Niagara Falls, his wife plans to cross the falls hanging from a helicopter with her teeth.
The trapeze artist Erendira Vasquez Wallenda will try to accomplish the feat on 15 June.
Elected officials from Niagara County, USA, endorsed the project, investing $ 35,000 in the adventure.
In 2015, Ms. Wallenda had stood by a hoop hanging from a helicopter during a pre-NASCAR car show.
Last February, five members of the legendary Wallenda circus family had fallen from a wire to training in Florida. All survived.
Not on the Canadian side
The event will be held only on the American side of the falls.
“We heard about the event in the media. No one approached us with this project, so I imagine it will only be on the American side. ”
Janice Thompson, Chair of the Niagara Parks Commission
In 2012, the Niagara Parks Commission approved the achievement of Nik Wallenda. Shortly thereafter, it decided that it would only allow one such performance every 20 years.
“We recognize the contribution of this type of achievement to the history and cultural heritage of the falls,” says Thompson.
