Fat Can Kill

We’ve all heard that fat can kill, but this is often related to lack of a good diet and exercise, not because people wanted to kill you for your fat. So, let’s just add another reason to the list why it might be dangerous to be fat. This is especially the case if you happen to live in or visit the central Peruvian provinces of Pasco and Huanaco.

For the past thirty years, gangs in Peru have been killing people for their fat and selling it to cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies in Europe. So far, there have been sixty confirmed cases, but there are likely to be more, as many missing person cases in the area have still been unsolved. This includes women and children.

At this point in time, three men and one woman have been arrested. They have confessed to their crimes and involvement in a ‘boogeyman-like gang.’ There are still seven other people on the loose, one which is thought to have made an escape attempt to Europe.

One of the most disturbing aspects of this case is that there were liters of human fat sitting in one of the suspect’s refrigerators, waiting to be sold so others can look and feel better about themselves. It’s hopeful that those responsible will be brought to swift justice.
