New Methods To Track Members On Parole Examined

Ottawa- The method of keeping track of paroled offenders is being examined by the Federal Government in Ottawa.

A special one year trial program using tracking ankle bracelets and anklets has begun in Ottawa, according to Health and Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day.

It will be an optional program, paroles will not have to wear the device, but if they do cooperate then they will open themselves up for positive cooperation and the ability to benefit from shorter sentences.

It is a one year trial program that will cost the Government about $600,000 dollars.

B.C. Sea To Sky Highway Closed In Both Directions

Horseshoe Bay, B.C.- The British Columbia Route 99- the popular Sea to Sky Highway has been closed due to a massive rock slide.

At around midnight on Tuesday huge truck sized boulders came smashing down from the hills next to the highway, blocking the road in both directions and covering both lanes of traffic.

The rock slide is massive, and it covers the roadway and it even trails down into the water near Porteau Cove.

Highway 99 is closed from Horseshoe Bay to Furry Creek Bridge, and it will be closed until the rock slide can somehow be cleared away.

The Squamish RCMP detachment has announced that they estimate at least 16,000 cubic metres of debris and rock now block the road, much of which will likely have to be blasted to clear the roadway for travel again.
