Should buyers beware in regards to purchasing a Toyota in the midst of the company’s current recall? No, what prospective consumers need to keep in mind is that the Toyota Motor Corporation is a highly respected auto manufacturer that has been in business for over 70 successful years. Above all else, they want to fix the problem and move on.

To date Toyota has ordered the recall of just over five million vehicles over the past year due to problems with the accelerator sticking. While the numbers are extremely high, Toyota is placing a halt on production in order to focus all of their efforts on fixing the problem. In an attempt to render aid to Toyota owners that will be carless while their vehicles are being fixed, Automotive News is reporting that Toyota has contacted several dealers and instructed them to, “give any complaining customers a rental car at Toyota’s expense.”

This is just a bump in the road. Once the accelerators have been properly fixed, Toyota will return to business as usual. Car buyers should not be deterred. If a Toyota is what you want, then you just need to make sure that it has been recalled properly.

Bernard Madoff has been in the news because of the Ponzi scheme he ran for years that resulted in the fall of many financial organizations. Now, his brother, Peter Madoff, has been the focus of a cimrinal probe related to the fraud that is said to have bilked people out of millions of dollars. In fact, the scheme is said to have reached the billions.

Recently, the United States attorney’s office said that they were investigating Madoff. This has resulted from a lawsuit that was filed by the Lautenberg Foundation, a group that lost money in the scheme.

Irving Picard is the trustee who is in charge of trying to regain some of the money lost in the scheme. He is suing Peter Madoff because he was the chief compliance officer for this brother’s group.

When Madoff appeared at a disposition, he refused to answer basic questions by invoking his Fifth Amendment nearly 200 times. This has given the government cause to be concerned about Peter Madoff’s involvement with the scheme.

Madoff’s lawyer, Mr. Spada, has gone on the record saying that the Foundation was focused on “securing a quick summary judgment.” Madoff’s lack of answers is said to be an attempt to “step in front” of claims by the Foundation, government, and those who lost money in the scheme.

Although J.P. Morgan Chase was able to report a profit over the last fiscal quarter, there are still signs that many within their corporation and the larger banking sector as a whole that they are still not very willing to give out loans. The stock for the company had also been performing well, but like many other stocks took quite a dip in recent days. This means that a full on economic recovery may be quite a way’s away.

There are plenty of people who are now saying that the stock market was moving faster than it should have been. This fact gave some investors the false impression that things were looking up in the economy when there truly is still some trouble on the horizon. J.P. Morgan Chase themselves are worried about their future even though they did turn an eleven point seven billion dollar profit over the last quarter. They are worried about new regulations that are likely to be placed on financial institutions as recommended by the Secretary of the Treasury and they continue to worry about the likely tax increases that are going to be proposed by the Obama Administration over the next few years. This has many executives at the company frightened.

With what appears to be an attack against Red Bull and other high energy drinks, the aggressive marketing of anti-energy drinks is taking a huge slice of their consumers who are now frazzled by existing in recessional times and need something to down size their natural adrenalin overload.

Although, anti-energy drinks have been in stores since 2007, people were on a get charged and pumped frenzy.

Now, according to Jenny Foulds, an employee in public relations for Zenith International, a public relations firm located in Bath, United Kingdom, people are desperately seeking ways to de-stress and trying to just relax. Jenny Foulds is trying to predict just how far up the financial profit market, anti-energy drinks will go and is using figures from their antagonist, the high energy drinks like Red Bull to make a prediction.

Playing against Red Bull and hedging for a share of their consumers, an anti-energy drink called Slow Cow, made in Canada actually has two bulls in attack mode on their cans. Carefully trying to appease Red Bull and not get locked in a lawsuit, Slow Cow is planning to change their cans image with a picture of a cow sitting.

After the 1995 GT, Ford stopped putting 5.0 litre engines in Mustangs due to fuel economy. The new engine is designed to deliver 412 horsepower as well as 25 miles per gallon, said Ford spokeswoman Angie Kozleski.

“It is a thoroughly modern engine for the times delivering the performance and the fun-to-drive factor that enthusiasts want, while improving the fuel economy,” said Derrick Kuzak, Ford’s group vice-president, global product development.

Ford announced in November that the vehicle would also house a new 3.7 litre V6 engine with 305 horsepower.

The 2011 GT and it’s new engine will be shown at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Jan. 11-24. The vehicle will go on sale in the spring, with production beginning early 2010 at the Essex Engine plant in Windsor, Ontario.

What started out as a 5% tax on elective cosmetic surgery (aptly titled “Botax”) has been replaced by a 10% tax on indoor tanning services in the Senate’s healthcare bill due to lobbying efforts by plastic surgeons, the company that makes Botox, and the American Medical Association. This tax is estimated to raise roughly $2.7 billion over ten years from the nation’s 20,000 or so indoor tanning salons.

Opponents of the elective cosmetic surgery cite gender discrimination since women are more likely to pay for such procedures. Justification for the new tax comes in the form of reports that link indoor tanning to cancer. The supporters of this tax hope that it may serve as a deterrent to indoor tanning: it would effectively be a sin tax much like the one on cigarettes.

The tanning industry has fought back saying that they’re already heavily restricted when it comes to teenager access and this tax puts and additional strain on their business in an already troubled economy. The bottom line is that cosmetic surgeons have the manpower and resources to fight off a tax on their industry but indoor tanning salons on the other hand do not.

Credit card’s newest trick: 79.9 percent interest!

It did not take long for First Premier Bank to figure out a way to get around the new government regulatory caps. Presently First Premier Bank charges a variety of annual and first year fees: account set-up fee, program fee, annual fee, and monthly servicing fee. The total cost of first year fees on a new card holder comes to $256.00. The new regulations will cap these fees at 25 percent of a card holder’s credit line and reduce the banks fees to a maximum of $75.00 on a credit line of $300.00.

To offset this loss, First Premier Bank decided to make use of the fact that the new regulations did not cap the interest rate they can charge. They have recently issued cards with fees of $75.00 and an interest rate of 79.9 percent. There will also be a $29.00 late fee and over credit limit fee.

In fairness to the bank, these cards have been issued to subprime (high risk) customers. They contend that in order to issue a credit card to a high risk customer the charges have to be high enough to offset their potential losses.

People are always trying to get those last minute gifts for special people in their lives.

There is a deadline for sending packages however from the United States Postal Service. The last day you can send packages that can indeed arrive in time for Christmas is apparently December 16th.

The United States Postal Service and FedEx each see a huge spike in business during the holiday season. The highest rate of packages received appears to be on December 21st. Fox Business did an important segment showing people how simple it is to ship things with FedEx. The segment should help the private sector shipping giant as people go get those last few gifts fir Grandma.

One of the best ways to beat holiday shopping deadlines is to get your shopping done and get things shipped shortly after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Family members who don’t want gifts and other items opened until Christmas should give explicit instructions not to open the packages until that time.

Just before the holidays, British Airways employees have just said yes in a strong majority to go on strike.

The 13 000 members of cabin crew for British Airways have voted to strike beginning December 22, for a period of 12 days. The union says that 92.5% of members voted in favor of the strike.

Thousands of holiday travelers may therefore not be able to fly with the carrier because union members are unhappy with the layoffs and changes in working conditions.

The union alleges that the changes including a freeze of wages and conditions less favorable for new employees were imposed illegally.

British Airways seeks to reduce its costs while demand for air travel is low during recessions.

The company lost 217 million pounds (C $ 374 billion) during the six months ended September 30. She announced the layoff of 4900 workers by 2010.

The company is said to be in the process of upgrading its flights to the strike period and hopes to announce the new when it becomes available. It says it will contact customers as soon as possible.

Last November, British Airways and its Spanish counterpart Iberia signed a preliminary merger agreement. The merger should be completed in 2010, making British Airways became the majority shareholder in Iberia.
