Ontario (EON) – The Castleberry’s Food Co. recall in the United States due to chili tainted with botulism has extended up north to Canada.
The recall now includes cans of Great Value chili which are sold at many Wal-Mart store locations up in Canada. Over the weekend Connors Bros. who owns Castleberry shut down its production facility in Georgia in order to try and regain control over their product. They had 16 cans of chili test positive for the bacteria which causes botulism.
There have been four botulism cases thus far with two in Indiana and two in Texas. They all consumed the Hot Dog Chili Sauce Original from Castleberry.
The Senior Vice President of Castleberry Dave Melbourne stated that Great Value Chili was only affected in Canada as the recall expanded to now include 80 types of products and four types of dog food. There is no telling how this will financially harm the company but it is already taking a toll as stocks are dropping.
