Artificial Blood Substitutes Given Green Light Despite Clear Risks

Washington- The results of an analytical review of practice by the Food and Drug Administration reveal a clear pattern of mistakes in their approval of Artificial Blood substitutes.

Many of these approvals by the FDC were made even after there was clear and convincing evidence that the products in question were shown to cause death and heart failure.

The data that was examined was from more than 3,711 different patients who were participants in studies that tested different types of blood substitutes and artificial blood.

In 16 tests that were testing 5 different types of artificial blood the chance of dying was raised nearly 30 percent for anyone participating in the trial. This was clearly seen no matter what type of artificial blood substitute was being tested. (more…)

Washington - A new study has many alarmed who work with toddlers and infants in the United States. As many as 1 in 4 infants are not receiving the right amount of shots, leaving them exposed to a much higher risk of infection, disease and death.

The newest study which was completed recently by the CDC says that young children between the age of 18 and 36 months old are often not meeting their recommended vaccination levels.

In studies done in 2005 among 17,563 children it was found that about 72 percent of these children had the correct vaccinations on time. About 4900 infants and small children were discovered to be missing doses, or not having the proper vaccinations done for them at the recommended times and levels. (more…)

Counselors Are Considering Classifying Transit As Essential Service

Toronto-After the recent wildcat strike on the weekend by the Toronto Transit Union the Toronto City Council went into deliberations on Tuesday as to the current union classification.

The union in Toronto for transit workers are threatening various degrees of labour unrest and activity if the City Council changes their legal designation for the Transit Authority.

At stake is the right to strike, or being prohibited from striking against the city.

The Toronto City council is debating if the Transit Authority should be declared an essential service. If the Transit authority is re classified then the Transit Union would lose its right to strike and be prevented from going out on strike for labor related issues or to strike at all. (more…)

Los Angeles - Miley Cyrus is apologizing for appearing in some racy photographs.

The 15-year-old released a statement to People Magazine saying she’s embarrassed about the photos that are in an upcoming Vanity Fair article.

The magazine enlisted famed photographer Annie Leibovitz to do the shoot and Miley appears to be topless with a blanket covering her. (more…)

The rate of women who start their pregnancy with diabetes Type I or Type II has doubled since 1999, even though the rate of diabetes from gestational causes have stayed the same.

New York - Doctors have utilized gene therapy to aid vision in patients that suffer from a rare kind of blindness. Patients were aided who were suffering from a rare eye disorder called Leber’s congenital amaurosis.

The new results are considered a big breakthrough for patients that suffer from a previously incurable form of blindness. It is a welcome new potential treatment and use for gene therapy that has had its share of major setbacks over the last 15 years.

“This is a true revolutionary discovery,” said the Chairman of Genetic Medicine at Weill Medical College at Cornell University, Ronald Crystal. “It is evidence that types of gene therapy can truly work and be beneficial,” said Dr. Crystal. (more…)

Los Angeles - Miley Cyrus says feels embarrassed after a partially nude photo of her was leaked over the weekend.

The photo, which will appear in an upcoming issue of Vanity Fair, was shot by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz, who has also done magazine covers of Cameron Diaz, Nicole Kidman and many other celebrities.

Cyrus 15, is shown partially nude in the photo, only covered by a dark sheet.

The TTC strike is over, and all over the city buses, streetcars, and subway trains are moving again. The Ontario Legislature has ordered the striking TTC workers back to work.

Toronto - The TTC strike is over, and all over the city buses, streetcars, and subway trains are moving again. The Ontario Legislature has ordered the striking TTC workers back to work.

Partial TTC service resumed late Sunday afternoon. Full service expected Monday morning.

During the debate at Queens Park the politicians asked TTC users to show respect and not be abusive towards bus, streetcar and subway operators and drivers. (more…)

Los Angeles - Miley Cyrus says she is embarrassed about photos of her which will appear in an upcoming issue Vanity Fair magazine.

In the new issue, the 15-year-old singer/actress is shown partially nude, only wearing a dark sheet.

The “Hanna Montana” star says the photo shoot was supposed to be artistic.

“I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be ‘artistic’ and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed,” Cyrus said in a statement released today. “I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about.” (more…)

Five days after a tentative deal was reached between the TTC and it's largest union, thousands of workers are voting on that deal today.

Toronto - Five days after a tentative deal was reached between the TTC and it’s largest union, thousands of workers are voting on that deal today.

Earlier this week, a number of TTC maintenance workers suggested they would vote against accepting the new agreement because of concerns about the contracting out of some work.

Should the agreement be voted down, TTC workers could walk off the job as early as this weekend.

Vote results should be known around 10 o’clock Friday night.
