Los Angeles - A new research study from the National Cancer Institute has shown that people who consume a large amount of processed and red meat are at increased risk of developing certain kinds of cancer. The types of cancer include colorectal cancer and lung cancer.
Researchers looked at a United States Health and Diet study first started in 1995. The study conducted by National Cancer Institute researchers led by Dr. Amanda Cross. Subjects included five hundred thousand women and men ages fifty to seventy-one years of age.
The highest risk is found in those people who eat red meat on a regular basis. Those that eat red meat are more than twenty five percent more at risk to develop lung, liver, and bowel or esophageal cancer. Over the course of the eight year study people who do not eat red meat or small amounts were much less at risk for these types of cancer. (more…)
Los Angeles - Actress Jessica Alba is pregnant with her boyfriend Cash Warren’s baby, according to People.
“I can confirm that Jessica and Cash are expecting a baby in late spring, early summer,” Jessica’s rep Brad Cafarelli told the magazine.
Jessica, 26, and Cash, 28, have been dating since 2004 but it hasn’t always been a bed of roses.
Back in July, Jessica and Cash called it quits and it looked like it was over for good. Rumor mills claimed that not only did she have her assistant ‘remove his belongings’ from her home, but Jessica allegedly dumped Cash over the phone.
The future parents were spotted last weekend kissing up a storm while shopping for mattresses in LA. Why would they be shopping for the very thing that got them into this mess in the first place?
London - Winehouse’s mother may have been pleading with her daughter to come home but Amy wants to go to the Grammys instead.
The singer is nominated for six Grammys and according to People Magazine she is hoping to be in good shape for the ceremony and her performance that night.
Amy canceled all of her appearances for the rest of the year and is currently in a program supervised by doctors.

But she can keep her clothes on during the shoot because the magazine staff thinks she’s too fat to be seen naked.
They’re advertising to hire a slim body double to sex up the photo. And Britney is agreeable to this??
Blender apparently wants to replicate a Bert Stern picture of Marilyn Monroe in bed, but bosses fear the troubled singer is too overweight.
An ad in the publication reads, “We are casting for a Britney Spears body double. You must have shoulder to medium-length blonde hair. This person must also be in shape. Your face will not be shown in the final photograph/cover.”
Barrie - An explosion at the Royal Thai restaurant in the Bayfield and Dunlop area of downtown Barrie sparked a major fire late thursday night. Due to concerns the fire could spread, apartments above nearby stores were evacuated.The fire was burning out of control for several hours. The accompanying picture showing flames and smoke billowing up into the night sky was shown on the City of Barrie’s web site between 2 and 3 a.m. After 3 o’clock, the flames began dying down.
However, Barrie’s fire chief told CFRB’s Ryan Bird that the Royal Thai restaurant had collapsed, and the fire had spread to adjacent buildings and businesses. He says it’s the worst fire he’s seen in his 23 years with the department. Firefighters ran a water line from nearby Lake Simcoe.
Even though restaurant furniture was blown out onto the street, no injuries have been reported among people. But one couple who’s apartment was shaken by the explosion fled so quickly, they fear all their pets have been lost.
Los Angeles - it was a British invasion in Hollywood last night, as Keira Knightley, James McAvoy and Vanessa Redgrave hit the red carpet for the US premiere of Atonement.
Looking demure in a floaty pink dress, Keira told reporters: “this is a film that we’re all so excited to be a part of and the reception so far has been amazing, so to be here tonight in Hollywood is just amazing.”
Director Joe Wright, who’s worked with Keira on two other films, said the actress was always his number one for the role.
“She’s incredibly clear and incredibly smart and incredibly soulful, and also iconically beautiful.”
Scottish actor James McAvoy said he’s hopeful that movie-goers will love the film: “It’s a modern classic and it treats its audience like they have a little bit of intelligence which is not something I think happens too much.”
Vanessa Redgrave was self-deprecating when it came to explaining how she chooses her acting roles: “Basically I take whatever I’m given, but once in a while something very special happens and that’s the case with this film.”
Young Irish actress Saoirse Ronan said she’d made some great relationships with her fellow cast members: “They are definitely my friends they are beautiful really lovely people and I love them lots.”

Eva joined the ad campaign ‘I’d Rather Go Naked…’ for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and will unveil her very sexy ad on Thursday in New York City.
The photos for the capaign were shot by renowned photographer, Don Flood. NYC city authorities have asked the organizers not to announce the time or exact place of the event. So what inspired Eva to pose nude for the campaign? No other than her pet pooch!

Obese children are more likely to develop, and die, from heart disease as adults, according to two new studies released Wednesday.
Researchers from the University of California predict heart disease will rise as much as 16 percent in the next 30 years in the United States.
Lead author Dr. Kirsten Bibbins of the University of California, says that overweight children and teenagers today are at an increased risk of developing heart disease down the road as adults.
Dr Bibbins and her co authors report the results of a computer-generated model that suggests cronic heart disease (CHD) prevalence in 2035 will be 5% to 16% higher than it is today, given current obesity rates among teens.
Deaths due to CHD will be even higher, up as much as 19% when today’s teenagers reach age 35 to 50, she told heartwire. “To some extent our results are not unexpected. We would expect that there would be more heart disease and deaths, but we were struck really by the magnitude of this increase.”
Another study released this week and published in the New England Journal, found that even the smallest difference can either help or hurt.
A 13-year-old boy who is 25 pounds overweight increases his risk of developing hear disease one third.
“A small increase in body weight substantially increases heart disease later in life,” says Dr. David Ludwig, an associate professor of pediatrics at the Harvard Medical School, who wrote an accompanying editorial to the study.
Researchers monitored 277,000 Danish school and found that overweight boys between 7 and 13 and girls aged 9 to 13 were at an increased risk of developing heart disease as adults.
“If childhood obesity markedly increases heart disease risks, we are looking at a huge public health problem,” he says.
Doctors say kids and teens can reduce their risk of developing heart disease as an adult by eating health and exercising on a regular basis now.
Los Angeles - Kiefer Sutherland reported to jail last night to officially begin serving his 48-day sentence, according to People.
Kiefer, 40, was arrested and charged with a DUI back in September when he blew more than twice the legal limit of .08 on his breathalyzer.
In addition to the 48 day sentence, he was given five years probation and must take an 18-month alcohol education program.
Kiefer also has to attend weekly therapy sessions for six months, according to the report.
“Sutherland will be serving the 48 days in the Glendale City Jail, with no early release and no good time/work time credit, so we expect that he will serve the entire 48 days in jail,” according to a statement from the L.A. City Attorney’s Office.
It looks like he won’t follow in Lindsay Lohan or even Nicole Richie’s scandalous footsteps by getting out in a matter of hours.
Los Angeles - Teri Hatcher’s mouth has gotten her into trouble; her lips to be precise.
Hydroderm skin care has filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against the Desperate Housewives actress, claiming she promoted another firm’s contract while under contract with them.
According to papers filed in Los Angeles, Hatcher’s ISBE Productions signed a deal with Hydroderm in November 2005 to have her boast about the company’s line of anti-aging products.
She then got on board with City Cosmetics, touting the benefits of its’ CityLips lip plumper, in direct competition with Hydroderm’s Volumizing Lip Serum.
Hatcher was interviewed about CityLips, and said it helped her “appear beautiful at an awards event,” and she handed out samples of the product at a birthday party.
Hatcher’s lawyer dismisses the suit as “a transparent and pathetic effort to distract from its own failure to live up to its end of the agreement,” adding that Hatcher will go after the remaining money in her contract with Hydroderm and punitive damages.
