Toronto - Some 2 thousand people were expected to attend a charity fundraiser at the Royal Ontario Museum last night. They couldn’t because someone made a package to look like a bomb and placed it at the ROM doors.
The package had wires and a battery but no explosive. It took until 10:30 to re-open the area.
The party was to have been attended by at least 2 thousand people, following $600 a plate dinners for the Canadian Foundation for Aids Research that were held at more than 20 local restaurants.
Los Angeles - Dancing With the Stars winner Helio Castroneves and his fiancee Aliette Vazquez have decided to call off the engagement, according to People.
The mag reports that the two have decided to break up for good.
So I guess winning the big prize on DWTS doesn’t come cheap.
Helio may have won the trophy, but he lost his beloved and might I add gorgeous fiancee.
“I can confirm that Aliette Vazquez and I have called off our engagement and are no longer together. At this time I would prefer to keep my private life private,” Helio told the magazine.
Could his 19-year-old stunning blonde dance partner, Julianne Hough (picture), have anything to do with the sudden break up? According to to TMZ, no. The two have been seperated for several weeks now.
Someone should tell Helio that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
Los Angeles - Britney Spears is not pregnant.
Tabloids this week were spreading news that Britney Spears was preggers for the third time!
The supposed baby-daddy was Brit’s producer and ex-boyfriend J.R. Rotem.
Rotem told USmagazine.com that there was no truth to the rumours whatsoever.
A friend of Spears, Sam Lufti, sent a text to Ryan Seacrest stating “Don’t know who made it up. J.R. doesn’t even konw what’s up. It’s fake. Completely fake. We just wrapped her video. Going home to sleep.”
All we can say is “phew”!
Helio Castroneves managed to defeat Mel B and Marie Osmond in the finals on Tuesday evening to take home the Dancing With The Stars trophy on ABC.
The final results show for the season featured Mel B, Helio, as well as Marie Osmond going head to head for the trophy. Towards the beginning of the show one had to be eliminated, and it ended up being Marie Osmond.
The finale show also featured Celine Dion performing two songs. Her hit “My Heart Will Go On” as well as her new hit “Taking Chances.”
The contestants from throughout the season such as Wayne Newton and others also came back to perform one more time. Wayne Newtom unfortunately could not perform due to health issues though.
Towards the end of the night it was up to Mel B and Helio to dance one final time to add to their scores, and dance they did. The two couples performed beautifully getting perfect scores on both sides as there were nothing but perfect 10s being put up by the judges.
Helio celebrated with big hugs from his partner as well as some milk, stating it was going right in between his two Indy 500 trophies.
It was then up to the voting of the viewers and their scores from the night before. In the end it was Helio who ended up taking the trophy. His partner, Julianne Hough is a repeat winner on Dancing With The Stars as she also won last season.
Los Angeles - Disney actress and star Hannah Montana, real name Miley Cyrus, celebrated her 15th birthday by playing to a sold-out crown in her hometown of Nashville, Tennessee on Sunday.
Cyrus played to over 15,000 fans in her hometown of Nashville as she also enjoyed her birthday, turning 15.
She was serenaded with “Happy Birthday” toward the end of her concert which has been a monstrous success. The “Best of Both Worlds” tour has been huge drawing sold out crowds in every stop.
A cake was delivered to her on stage as she was also treated to a nice fireworks display.
She had an encore song with her dad, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus at the end of the show. They sang their signature duet “Ready, Set, Don’t Go.” When the song ended Billy Ray gave his daughter a hug and stated “Happy birthday, little girl.”
It was a special birthday indeed as Cyrus, who plays Hannah Montana on the hit Disney TV show, was very happy to be home in Nashville to celebrate her birthday.
Los Angeles - Melanie Brown and her professional dance partner burned up the floor on Dancing with the Stars ballroom battle last night.
Many believe that Brown is positioned to win the mirror-ball trophy during Tonight’s season finale.
Mel B — who had the rest of the Spice Girls there for support — stole the show, earning an overall 55 out of 60 by the judges.
“I can’t believe I actually do it like that,” she said.
Marie Osmond earned a score of 46 out of 60.
“I’m really happy because I definitely am the oldest competitor here,” said Osmond.
Race car driver and surprisingly good dancer Elio Castro-Navis was given a score of 54.
The Dancing With Stare finale airs tonight on NBC.
New York — Ingrid Marie Rivera was one of 29 contestants vying for the title of “Miss Puerto Rico”. She won the crown despite having several of her pageant gowns doused in pepper spray. Did we mention there was also a bomb threat. It seems dangerous to be vying for a crown if you hail from Puerto Rico.
Rivera had a severe reaction to the pepper spray and raced backstage to apply ice to her body and face. Officials thought that she was having an allergic reaction or hives. It happened a second time with a different gown - leading to the discovery. To add to her woes, her purse, makeup and clothing were stolen.
It would seem that someone didn’t want Rivera to win the crown. There had been complaints during the week - with many feeling that Rivera was too experienced and should therefore be disqualified. She had previously reigned as Miss World Caribbean 2005. She was also said to be a media favorite coming into the competition. (more…)
Los Angeles - Former Bachelor “winner” Mary Delgado was arrested in Florida last week on assault charges, according to People.
Mary was charged with assaulting Byron Velvick, the same guy who she fought for on the show and agreed to marry.
Mary and Byron appeared on an ABC special last Wednesday following the final rose ceremony for bachelor Brad Womack.
Later that night, Mary allegedly smacked Byron in the face and split his upper lip, according to People.
Mary, 40, was arrested by local police, charged with battery, and released later that afternoon.
What could have set off the angry interaction? The two certainly appeared to be happy and in love, but then again, you can’t believe everything you see on television.
Toronto - Mother Nature will soon be playing a bigger role in Toronto’s winter maintenance.
CFRB has learned that Transportation Services is trying to cut back on their 65 million dollar budget by making some reductions to their services - on top of the cost containment measures already in place.
Right now, snow removal starts after eight centimetres are on the ground, and the snow has stopped. Side streets are usually plowed within 15-25 hours after the storm, and sidewalks within 48 hours.
But Gary Welsh, general manager of Transportation Services says things are about to change slightly, as they try to cut back on their 65 million dollar operating budget.
“We’re going to analyze each storm before it comes and make decisions during the storm to see if maybe there are certain services that we do not have to provide, because probably over the next day, it’ll get a lot warmer, the sun will come out, and Mother Nature does her thing about melting the snow instead of us having to clear the snow.”
Welsh says it was really a choice of where they could afford to cut - summer maintenance like pothole repair or winter maintenance, and they decided it wasn’t possible to cut back on road repair. He adds the service reductions are fairly minor.
“Probably the public will not notice. We feel that if it’s really managed well, we can save some money, meet Council’s cost containment objectives, and really not discomfort the general public to a great degree.
Welsh says the action should shave about five million dollars from their 65 million dollar operating budget.

Los Angeles - Lily Allen has been looking trimmed down and fab in recent months, but the reason for her change is more than skin deep, according to media reports Tuesday.
The smilin’ singer has taken on a new fitness routine, and dropped from a UK size 12 to 8, after doctors diagnosed her with a heart murmur.
Lily’s fast adapting to her new lifestyle, consisting of more exercise and less junk food.
She said: “I found out I had a heart murmur about three months ago during a routine check-up. It was really scary.
“When they asked me how much exercise I did, I had to be honest and say hardly any.
“Now I make sure I work out three times a week. And I don’t hold back - it’s a hardcore routine in the gym.”
Allen admits she hasn’t given up all her bad habits yet.
“I should also give up smoking, but I haven’t quite managed that yet.”
